2009 RivLife Community Centre
The following services are offered to the community:
* Home based care and support
* Provision of regular nutritious food parcels to those infected and affected by HIV
& Aids
* Conducting of HIV and Aids awareness workshops
* Food and nutrition targeting largely those who are infected by HIV and inclusive
of food garden projects
* Developing healthy minds and bodies workshops
* Psychosocial support
* Death and bereavement counselling
* Substance Abuse awareness and counselling
* Liaison for social grants and medical care (ARV access through the Northdale
hospital)
* Human Rights issues
* Doll making and beadwork
* Monitoring of support groups
* Food garden projects
Other community development initiatives include:
* Computer training in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook,
Web Design and Email. RivLife conducts its training in one of two 20 station
networked computer labs with access to the internet to facilitate learning.
* Sunset overnight shelter for the homeless (accommodating approximately 70
people per day)
* Food gardens project for the HIV infected clients
* Employment opportunities by networking with a local company to repair palettes
and to wash containers as two of the income generating activities for sustainability
of the project.
