The RLCC Open Day reached approximately 400 clients from Ward 34. Approximately 89 pairs of reading glasses to the value of R2 225 were dispensed by the optometrist. The cost of the reading glasses were met by the RivLive Community Centre. The dental team attended a large contingency of clients and about 25 tooth extractions where carried out also at no charge to the clients. New Start, an organisation dealing specifically with HCT tested 51 clients of which 16 tested HIV positive. This is indicative of the high HIV infection rate in the area that we serve. Many clients were given referral letters to the local health care facilities upon being screened as possible diabetic and hypertensive. In addition to the above the RLCC social worker attended to the needs of about 15 clients whilst a further 5 clients decided to join the local Alcohol Anonymous group for assistance in dealing with their substance abuse issues.

The Ward Councilor Kehlo Dladla was present at the open day and delivered the keynote address. Other speakers included Bongani Malevu from TB Free and Angel Mncwabe from Department of Social Development. River of Life Christian Ministry worship team conveyed a message of Agape love, faith and hope in the form of vibrant music. A hot meal was served for lunch and juice and biscuits for morning tea. Members of the community received packages comprising of food and hygiene products. Our budget for the day was approximately R 30 000.00.
